What are Dental Implants?

Each dental implant consists of three parts: a small titanium post that’s surgically placed into your jawbone to act as a natural tooth root; a small metal abutment, attached to the post as a support; and a restoration, which can be a single crown, a bridge or a full mouth prosthesis. Titanium is a preferred dental implant material due to its excellent strength, fracture resistance, biocompatibility, ability to fuse with the underlying bone, success rate of over 95%, as well as its unmatched longevity. Dental implants make up the only tooth replacement solution that not only prevents bone loss, but actually helps stimulate new bone growth!

Versatile Dental Implant Options Offer Long-Lasting Benefits

Dental implants offer unsurpassed versatility because they can replace a single tooth, support and stabilize dentures or dental bridges, or restore full function and esthetics for multiple missing teeth in the upper arch, lower arch or both. All-on-Four, All-on-6 or All-on-X full mouth implants provide significant and dramatic benefits compared to traditional dentures. The streamlined process is designed to place implants in the densest bone, which often eliminates the need for bone grafting. The number of implants varies based on the type of prosthesis (removable or fixed) and the condition of your underlying bone. A removable prosthesis (overdenture) attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and only removable by a dental professional. After they fuse with the underlying bone, dental implants restore over 99% of natural biting and chewing power. In all cases, dental implants make it possible to eat comfortably with durable teeth and feel confident in a complete smile. You’ll experience an amazing boost to your oral, physical and emotional health, plus you’ll enjoy an overall better quality of life! Once you get dental implants, you’ll quickly discover why they’re considered the ultimate solution for replacing any number of missing teeth.

Our Personalized Dental Implant Process

Your journey to a restored smile starts with a consultation with Dr. Ogunleye. During this initial visit, he’ll perform an oral exam and use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to analyze your bone structure, nerve tissue and sinus cavities. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed in your jawbone in predetermined locations with the strongest bone density. After surgery, the dental implants gradually fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration, which typically takes three to six months to complete. We’ll provide a temporary prosthesis crafted out of natural-looking acrylic resin that you’ll wear during this healing period. After the implants have completely fused with your jawbone, you’ll come back into the office, where Dr. Ogunleye will uncover the implants and attach small metal abutments that will act as anchors for the final replacement tooth, bridge or full arch prosthesis. The entire dental implant procedure usually takes six to eight months, during which most patients experience only minimal disruption in their daily life.

Why See an Oral Surgeon?

Dental implants can significantly improve your daily life and health. Although some general dentists have the experience to place dental implants, they lack the specialized training that oral and maxillofacial surgeons have to treat even complex cases with ease and efficiency. Oral surgeons have specific training in implant surgery, are accredited to administer all forms of anesthesia, and have medical training. Our surgical assistants are skilled in assisting with complex surgical procedures and administering IV sedation. We often get referrals from general practitioners and even specialists who don’t have the skills or advanced technology to treat patients with preexisting medical conditions, or those in need of complex care. If you’ve been wondering where to get high-quality dental implants in Papillon, NE, we’re here to help. Dr. Ogunleye has the right skills and training to transform your oral health, overall health and quality of life, even if you have severe bone loss and have been turned away by other practices!
